When You Are Weak

I want you to think about a difficulty you are facing. Maybe it’s in your marriage or maybe you’re facing a challenge with your health. Maybe your difficulty is financial. It could be a season of spiritual dryness you are facing or an emotional struggle. Difficulties have a way of bringing us face to face with our weaknesses. But that’s ok. Paul the apostle wrote,

That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

- 2 Corinthians 12:10 NIV

God is saying through Paul that even when we face difficulty we can rejoice. Why? Because God uses difficulties to show us how not-in-control we really are; to bring us to the hard realization that we are truly weak. Embracing this truth makes room for his strength in us. If we allow it to. When we realize just how weak we are, God’s strength shows up.

You can know this: God is working in your trials and arranging all your sufferings, making them servants to your desire to become more like Jesus. And while there are no shortcuts in this process, it is for your good and to his honor - all because he loves you.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.

- Romans 8:28-29

We show our love for him by allowing him to do his work in us and fulfill his purpose for our lives.

Are you facing difficulty right now? God sees into your darkness, he knows personally the heavy weight you carry, and brings comfort to you in this truth: he will never leave you nor forsake you. At this moment, in this hour, he is by your side. You can rest in Jesus and know that your Father in heaven cares about every burden you cast in his direction.

Will you pray this with me?

"I am weak in this trial, Father I confess. The days become long and the burdens heavy. But you are the lifter of my head; you carry me in this season and turn my weakness into strength. So I look to you, hope in you, and come to you. And here I wait, confident in your promise that the one who waits on you will find renewed strength."

Amen and grace and peace to you.
